TLDR

Iceborn Gauntlet Xerath Runes

Optional Summoner Spells
Mark
Mark (Snowball) for a go-in tool if you want to be more aggressive.
Exhaust
Defensive option. Exhaust for peeling against enemy divers and assassins and protecting your carries.
Optional Runes
Presence of Mind
Triumph is better overall (heal + gold), but if you want to have easier time with your mana, go Presence of Mind.
Demolish
If you are into taking objectives, you can consider taking Demolish rune. Usually it is worth it and lets you push turrets quicker. Utility slash team oriented option.
How it works
- You rush Iceborn Gauntlet.
- You play as Tank, but with focus on kitting the enemy team and utility for your team.
- You disrupt fights with CC, soak damage, peel off your carries or initiate for your team.
Playstyle
Rush Iceborn Gauntlet to slow and kite the enemy team.
Disrupt fights, create frozen pools, provide utility. All while soaking damage for your team.
Adapt your tank items based on the enemy composition, so you can counter them.
How to play
Getting started
- You rush Iceborn Gauntlet #1, then you need to adapt your items to the game. Enemy team heavy on AP? Buy MR. They heavy on AD? Buy Armor. You need some damage? Well buy that.
- You can rush Imperial Mandate #2 if you can afford it, this makes this build more fun. However, if you are behind, it is okay to just skip it.
During fights
- There's great synergy between Iceborn Gauntlet + Imperial Mandate + Font of Life. You create frozen pools that will persist for a few seconds, slowing enemies, applying Imperial Mandate debuff + Font of Life heal mark for your allies.
Items
- For more utility oriented build, you can get Locket of the Iron Solari (sustain) or Shurelya's Battlesong (engages).
Runes
- Triumph rune is better overall (heal and gold), but if you want to have easier time with your mana, go Presence of Mind.
- Remember to consume your Grasp of the Undying procs!
Tips and Tricks
Champion
- You can elevate your Xerath play just by not looking in the direction of your Arcanopulse (Q), Eye of Destruction (W) or Shocking Orb (E), but facing other direction. You are more likely to hit, this way your enemies will lower guard and will not be expecting that you are actually aiming at them.
- You can insta cast Arcanopulse (Q), this is especially valuable in closer ranges.
- You can cast your Rite of the Arcane (R) in melee range, when fighting with enemy. You are outta Q, W, E and enemy doesn't really have a way to interrupt you? Just R.
Riot
- It's easier to land Arcanopulse on an enemy when they're moving toward or away from you, rather than side to side.
- Eye of Destruction will make landing Arcanopulse easier as the target will be slowed.
- If you stun an enemy with Shocking Orb, follow up with a guaranteed center hit on Eye of Destruction.
Skill Order
- Arcanopulse
Q
- Eye of Destruction
W
- Shocking Orb
E
- Rite of the Arcane
